This book is excellent I was so pleased with it when it arrived. My nearly 3 year old loves the moon and this book helped me talk to her about it. It uses real imagery from the moon. It shows the Earth from the moon too which is a good tool for explaining we live on the planet earth in space. A strange meteor and an old Sputnik satellite leads to humankind's first contact with an alien race. Soviet lunar colonists suspect an errant American of espionage, but he insists he was fleeing from moon-creatures. Scientists discover a stone face on Mars, in a Jack Kirby story written two decades before the discovery of the real-life Face on. (One key takeaway is that the moon reflects the sun’s light, and the moon orbits the Earth causing the phases of the moon.) Synopsis The book begins with general facts about the night sky then goes into more specific information about the moon and its relationship to the Earth and Sun. Gibbons uses illustrations to explain the text.
